Description

Due to infection, inflammation, or injury, fluorometholone eye drops are used to treat eye disease in youngsters and adults over the age of two. Inflammation of the eye refers to swelling of the eye tissues due to diseases like allergies, conjunctivitis (inflammation of the eye’s mucous membrane), or other diseases of the eyes.

The Fluorometholone eye drops have ‘fluorometholone’ in it, which reduces the action of the triggered immune system, thus preventing the white blood cells (WBC) from targeting our own body cells. It leads to a reduction in the release of chemicals (prostaglandin), causing pain and inflammation. It narrows the blood vessels, reducing the entry of cells into the site of injury and relieving the swelling, pain, and discomfort in the eyes.

Directions for Use

  • Take the advice of your doctor regarding the dosage and timing of this drug to receive safe and efficient treatment.
  • Sit comfortably and incline your head back. Gently pull your lower eyelid downwards using your index finger to create a pocket.
  • Instil the volume of drops recommended by your doctor into the lower eyelid pocket. Close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.
  • Fluorometholone is ophthalmic in use only. Don’t touch the tip of the container to your lids or eyes to avoid contamination.

Medicinal Benefits

  • Fluorometholone eye drops have ‘fluorometholone’ in it, which is a class of medicine known as ‘steroids’. Fluorometholone regulates inflammation by having an effect on the immune system and reducing the stimulated immune system by inhibiting white blood cells (WBC) from attacking the cells of the injured area.
  • Consequently, this decreases the release of chemicals (prostaglandin) responsible for causing pain and inflammation in the eyes.
  • It also leads to vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels), which decreases cells’ access to the site of injury and subsequently decreases the swelling, pain, and discomfort in the eyes.

  • Don’t touch the dropper tip to any surface or to your eye, as this would contaminate the eye drops.
  • Press the corner of the eye (near the nose) for 1 minute right after instilling the drop.
